Frantz Fanon's The Wretched of the Earth embodied in the Arab Spring Breakdown.

Abstract

The Arab Order is shaking, and the Arab Uprising known as Arab Spring brought up certain sociopolitical challenges that must be analyzed through the lenses of Geopolitics. As a matter of fact, Geopolitics can provide us with a current representation of the world and the updated understanding of the domination and coercion dynamics. In this sense, the Arab Spring is giving us an opportunity to analyze the impact of the seminal work of Frantz Fanon. His book entitled “The Wretched of the Earth” (1961) can be used to explain how and why the awakening call for democracy and human rights in the Arab World did not work so far. In doing so, this paper seeks to explain the suitability of Fanon’s ideas to explain not only the failure of the Arab Spring but the current geopolitical dynamic in the post-Arab Spring period. Likewise, the paper delves into the geopolitical codes provided by Fanon to understand the negative impact implemented by authoritarianism in the building of national consciences. Finally, the paper explains how helpful the Fanon’s ideas from a Geopolitical viewpoint can be to understand, on the one hand, the spaces created by the colonial relationship (settler space versus native space) and on the other, the kind of relations settled between colonized and colonizers that can be applied at present.
