Abstract

The rise of the metaverse and blockchain technology have transformed the concept of property, introducing virtual real estate as a significant economic asset. This article explores the challenges posed by disputes over virtual immovable property in decentralized environments, highlighting the inadequacies of traditional dispute resolution mechanisms based on territorial jurisdiction. It examines the potential of Blockchain Dispute Resolution (BDR) platforms, which employ decentralized processes, game theory, and automated execution via smart contracts to address these disputes. While BDR platforms offer innovative approaches, concerns persist regarding due process, neutrality, and the enforceability of decisions in traditional legal frameworks. The paper concludes by assessing the viability of BDR for metaverse disputes and its implications for the future of digital conflict resolution.
